Tips for Taking care of your Walking Canes

Walking canes are a necessity to those who have a fragile or agonizing limb or to those who have gone from a surgical treatment in their lower limb or to any person who has been suffering from a walking discrepancy. As it becomes a necessity, then it must be handled with much care especially when an investment has been made in acquiring it. Nobody wants to waste an investment. In this case, taking care of your walking cane is highly recommended to ensure its long-lasting durability and to maintain the security it provides.

A walking cane has a handle, a shaft or its body length, and a ferrule or the cane tip. It is important that to place your
walking cane in a safe place when not in use so that it will not be crushed or mistaken as an ordinary rod or pole. When your walking cane happens to be made of wood then never let it fall to avoid any cracks in it. Also, every now and then, you must polish and maintain cleanliness in your walking cane so that no rust or any other unnecessary parasites will be attached to it. In the case that the handle of your walking cane can be replaceable then always make sure that it has been removed and replaced carefully to avoid loosening of necessary bolts. Also, make sure that your foam rubber in the handle grip, if you have any, are sanitized regularly and still offer comfort to your hand. If not, then it’s time to replace a new one. In the shaft or body length of your walking cane, be careful when you polish it to avoid scratches or cuts in it. In addition to, it is very important to check on the condition of the tip of your walking cane. Make sure that the rubber traction in the cane tip is still completely molded, not missing any piece nor having any scratch. Remember that the tip of your cane will control the traction between your walking cane and the surface so it should always be of good condition else, you will be in danger. Moreover, always repair or restore any wrecked or slacken handles or other pieces of your walking cane. Never resolve to use them despite their not so good condition or else it may cause some accidents.

As for the solutions needed when polishing your walking cane, you can use any silver polish for a metal-made cane and any ordinary furniture polish for a wooden cane. When taking care of your walking cane, think of it as if you are taking good care of your own body. Since a walking cane plays a very important your in your life as it aids you in your walking mobility, then a very high regards on its maintenance must be applied.

Maintaining the good condition of your walking cane is essential to its longevity. Remember, taking care of it also means taking care of yourself.
